using storybooks in the EFL/ESL classroom

When I was teaching at  Pasadena Language Center I integrated colorful storybooks into my lessons when i was teaching children. Story books are an great example where children are encouraged to use the language from the story either in various role play forms or interactive games.  Storybooks promote children's listening comprehensions skills by exposing them to wide range of language. Storybooks are great for visual learners an a welcome break from the traditional teacher-centered classroom which unfortunately  focuses too much on the textbook. The kids I taught loved the different kinds of storybooks I used in my teaching. Story books help children to enhance their pronunciation skills as well as to develop fluency and intonation. A great website which contains storybooks, games, listening/speaking activities of fill in the gaps exercises is Cbeebies which is ideal for pre-school and primary school.
